Greetings
A Note Before We Begin
By Dr. Bükem Cüce, Plastic & Aesthetic Surgery Specialist, Istanbul
If you have found your way to this page, you are probably considering a change. Perhaps you have been thinking about it for a long time. Perhaps you are still in the early stages — curious, weighing up the options, not yet certain. Either way, I am glad you are here, and I want to start with something I tell every patient who sits across from me in a consultation: take your time.
Aesthetic surgery is not a decision to be rushed. And yet, in a world where before-and-after photographs appear in endless scroll and booking a procedure can feel as frictionless as ordering a delivery, the pressure to act quickly has never been greater. I want this space — this journal — to be a counterweight to that pressure. A place where we slow down, think carefully, and approach the subject of aesthetic surgery with the seriousness it deserves.
The Weight of the Decision
Something I think about often — and that I believe deserves more space in conversations about aesthetic surgery — is the relationship between how we see ourselves and how we actually appear to others. That gap, which exists in all of us to varying degrees, can sometimes be the true driver behind a surgical request. When the distress a person feels about their appearance runs deeper than the physical concern they describe, surgery rarely provides the lasting relief they are hoping for.
This is not a judgement, and it is not directed at anyone in particular. It is simply a reminder that the most important question to ask before any procedure is an honest one: why now, and why this? If the answer feels clear, settled, and genuinely your own — that is a strong foundation.
Some Decisions Cannot Be Undone
There is another truth worth acknowledging: some procedures are reversible, and some are not. Non-surgical treatments offer a degree of flexibility — but surgery, by its nature, makes permanent changes. That permanence is precisely what makes the results so meaningful. It is also what makes the decision worth sitting with for long enough to be certain.
Certain that the motivation is genuinely yours. Certain that enough time has passed for the idea to feel settled rather than impulsive. And certain that you understand not just the outcome you are hoping for, but the full picture — the recovery, the realistic timeline, and the range of possible results.
The Right Decision, in the Right Hands
When a patient arrives at a consultation having thought carefully, asked honest questions of themselves, and arrived at a clear and settled decision — that is when this work is most rewarding. Because aesthetic surgery, done well and for the right reasons, genuinely changes lives. Not by fixing something broken, but by aligning the outside with how a person already feels on the inside.
What I hope to offer — through this journal, through my consultations, and through every procedure I perform — is a standard of care built on transparency, honesty, and respect for the patient in front of me. Results that are natural, considered, and lasting. And a process in which you never feel rushed, pressured, or anything less than fully informed.
The decision is yours. I am here to help you make it well.
