MASTOPEXY

BREAST LIFT

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, and the natural effects of gravity over time can cause the breasts to lose their shape and firmness, sitting lower on the chest wall with the nipple pointing downward. A breast lift (mastopexy) reshapes and elevates the breast to a more youthful, projecting position — without changing the overall volume — restoring the silhouette and confidence that time has gradually diminished. Turkey offers world-class mastopexy surgery performed by expert surgeons in internationally accredited facilities.

Breast lift surgery in Turkey is performed using modern mastopexy techniques that prioritise lasting shape, natural aesthetics, and minimal scarring. Istanbul's surgeons are experienced in the full spectrum of lift approaches — from crescent and periareolar lifts for mild ptosis to vertical and full Wise-pattern lifts for more significant sagging — and tailor the technique precisely to each patient's anatomy and goals.

WHAT IS BREAST LIFT? ------------------------------ Mastopexy is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin, reshapes the breast tissue, and repositions the nipple-areola complex to a higher, more forward-facing position on the chest wall. It does not significantly change breast volume — for patients who also wish to increase size, a breast lift with implants is the appropriate approach. The technique chosen depends on the degree of ptosis (sagging). The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and takes 2–3 hours. Recovery involves wearing a supportive bra for 4–6 weeks, with most patients returning to daily activities within 10–14 days.

AM I THE RIGHT CANDIDATE?

• Your breasts have lost shape and firmness, with the nipple sitting at or below the level of the breast fold.
• You are satisfied with your breast volume and seeking only to improve shape, position, and firmness.
• You have completed your family — pregnancy and breastfeeding after mastopexy can affect results.
• You are at a stable weight and in good general health with no contraindications to general anaesthesia.

BENEFITS OF BREAST LIFT

• Elevated, youthful breast position: Reshapes and lifts the breast to a more projecting, forward-facing position on the chest.
• Restored breast shape: Removes the deflated, elongated appearance associated with ptosis.
• Improved body confidence: Patients consistently report renewed confidence in clothing and swimwear.
• Long-lasting results: With stable weight and the support of a good bra, results last many years.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  1. What makes Turkey a preferred destination for breast lift surgery?
Turkey offers surgeons skilled in the full range of mastopexy techniques within internationally accredited facilities, delivering consistently high results for international patients.

  2. Will a breast lift make my breasts larger?
No — mastopexy reshapes and elevates without adding volume. If you wish to increase size alongside the lift, a combined breast lift with implants is the appropriate procedure.

  3. What scars will I have?
Depending on the technique: periareolar (around the areola only), lollipop (areola plus vertical), or anchor (areola, vertical, and horizontal fold). Scars fade significantly over 12–18 months.

  4. How long do results last?
Results are long-lasting but not permanent, as the ageing process continues. Stable weight and regular bra support help prolong the outcome.

  5. Can I breastfeed after a breast lift?
Breastfeeding ability is generally preserved, as mastopexy does not typically disrupt the ductal system. This should be discussed with your surgeon if it is a consideration.

  6. How long is the recovery?
Most patients return to daily activities within 10–14 days. Exercise can resume from 4–6 weeks.

  7. Is it better to have a lift alone or combined with implants?
If your volume is satisfactory, a lift alone is preferred. If you wish more fullness alongside elevation, combined augmentation-mastopexy is appropriate. Your surgeon will advise based on your anatomy and goals.

  8. Should I wait until after having children?
Pregnancy and breastfeeding can affect the results of a breast lift. If you plan future pregnancies, it may be advisable to wait — this is discussed during consultation.

  9. How do I prepare?
Avoid blood-thinning medications. Full preparation instructions provided post-consultation.

DOCTOR'S NOTE Mastopexy is, to me, an exercise in sculpting — the goal is always to restore a natural, youthful shape that feels right for the patient's body. The technical challenge lies in the scar management: we cannot lift the breast without some degree of scarring, and the art is in achieving the best possible shape while keeping scars to a minimum and in well-concealed positions. I have an honest conversation with every mastopexy patient about scars, because I think it is essential that they understand and accept this trade-off before proceeding. For most patients, the improvement in shape, position, and confidence far outweighs the presence of scars that fade well and are hidden under clothing.
